I am writing this the day after the presidential election, and am in a little state of shock honestly. I thought for once in my life we would have a woman president, one who stands for the values I espouse, and who lives ethically, morally, and with a love for all the AMERICAN PEOPLE.
This is not the forum to address politics in, but it is disheartening to think that someone who was endorsed by the leader of the American Nazi Party has just been given the job of leader of the free world.
So, dusting myself off, and thinking about it, and what it means to me personally, I have to say that the best way to address my deep concerns about this is to be an activist. To do my job to the best of my ability, to move through the world ethically, morally, and with love for my community and the clients I serve.
Be the change. As an old friend of mine, Wes Nisker (you may remember him as "Scoop" Nisker from KFOG), used to say- "If you don't like the news, go out and make some of your own." Well, that is exactly what anyone should do- put one foot in front of the other and speak your truth- and realize every act of yours has ramifications on society. Each one of us can be the change necessary to make this world a better place. Pick up some garbage on the street. Carry groceries for an older person struggling with their bags. Donate to food banks and animal shelters. Give back through charity runs and events. Post good things on social media and respond to people with empathy. Be vigilant. Make sure you are looking at multiple sources for your information. Do not immediately accept everything you read as the truth. Watch what politicians do, and not what they say as Rachel Maddow is fond of saying.
How this relates to real estate- please don't leave the country (unless you really want to) - stay here and fight the good fight. Don't be greedy- realize that you will not be making a killing on your home sale the way some people did in 2021. Unless interest rates come down considerably, that is not going to happen. Having unreal expectations of value on house sales causes so much grief. I can guarantee you, that if you believe in the capitalist system, you will get exactly what your house is currently worth in your sale., If it is sitting on the market, it is only one of three things- condition, location and the most important (because these other two things can be cured by it) price.
Be kind. Think before pointing fingers and getting litigious in situations- Did the seller really fail to disclose? Or, is it just an old house that has quirks that had not been discovered until the buyers had their inspection. Are people really immediately filled with ill will so that they try to trick you into things? Or are they just not fully educated in what is important and what is not: in finance, a transaction, or house conditions. Remember, hiring lawyers is very expensive, soul robbing and litigation takes forever. Your life is passing you by while you focus solely on the past. Only if something is truly egregious should you get litigeous- wasting your life energy over not a lot of money is so sad.
Don't expect the worst from people- If you do, you are falling into the trap that has been set for us all- Expect good. Expect kindness. Deliver kindness. Make it a point to find what is enough for you and don't expect more than your fair share. Find ways to beautify your own world and others- take care of your things, get involved at the school. Offer pro-bono services occasionally- you will be surprised what a rush it is to help other people and to treat them decently. And remember that your anger, upset and hatred of a public figure is not going to change anything- much better to focus on what you can change rather than what is out of your hands. And put a lot of focus on your community- your local leaders, and concerns in your community- all of this will help your property value eventually. And even if it doesn't immediately change things, you will see that over time, good things happen from small acts and considerations... you just have to have faith.
