This Earth Day, Mother Earth Needs Our Help

We are all going through a lot with the insane news cycle, the stock market's volatility, and the economy. It is hard to watch all this and not be depressed and deflated, honestly.

The real estate market always has the same activators: life events to sustain it. People are always getting married, dying, having another kid, divorcing, changing jobs, downsizing, upsizing, and in general doing what we all do — living life and having major events. This does not change regardless of what is specifically going on in the economy. What has changed is that many people with exceedingly low mortgage rates are staying put, and inventory has not increased enough to accommodate the people who do want to buy. So that is buoying up the market. Just know that if you are thinking of selling, so long as the house looks great, and the price is appropriate, you will sell and be able to move on to what you want to do next with your one beautiful life.

Now, who can’t move, and can’t change anything without our help, is our Mother Earth! The recent turmoil we have all been through, along with the loosening of industrial regulations and the global warming crisis, has made Earth Day even more important than ever!

How can you do your part?

  • Participate in beach and neighborhood clean-up drives.
  • Recycle your old clothing and stuff through thrift stores and donation sites.
  • Buy products from companies that practice sustainable manufacturing.
  • Buy from local small stores rather than online behemoths.
  • Replant your lawn with California Natives.
  • Make sure everything you buy is packaged in recyclable materials.
  • Take public transit.
  • Go solar.
  • Go electric.
  • Multi-task on outings so you use less fuel.
  • Biodiesel is possible — look into it.
  • Stop using gas fuel in your home.
  • Stop having wood fires.
  • Make sure your government representatives know how you feel about the climate crisis through your vote and participation at public events.
  • Try vegetarian restaurants and food.
  • Bike or walk to places if possible.
  • Reduce plastic use.
  • Try composting.
  • Plant a tree!

All of these are small personal ways you can really make a difference over time to heal our beautiful earth. Remember, think globally, act locally, and take a moment to appreciate our exquisite parks, trails, and seashore. We are so lucky here in the Bay Area. All this amazing nature at our fingertips!
